Stellantis takes a new step in its circular economy strategy with the opening in Casablanca of its first automobile dismantling center in Morocco and in the Africa and Middle East region. This new site, managed by the unit SUSTAINera dedicated to the group’s sustainable activities, also becomes the third center of this type deployed by the manufacturer on a global scale after those in Italy and Brazil.
Installed in the industrial zone of Aïn Sebaâthe center is entirely dedicated to the dismantling of end-of-life vehicles and the recovery of components intended to be reused in the after-sales circuit. The stated objective is to extend the life of auto parts while reducing the environmental footprint linked to the manufacturing of new components, says the automaker.
The project mobilized an investment of 1.6 million euros and should generate nearly 150 direct and indirect jobs in professions linked to dismantling, quality control, logistics and circular economy operations. The site, which extends over approximately 6,000 m², has spaces dedicated to vehicle reception, decontamination, dismantling, quality control as well as storage of recovered parts before their redistribution.
Depending on the group, the center will be able to treat up to 10,000 vehicles per year. The vehicles will come from insurance companies, auctions and sectors specializing in end-of-life vehicles. After control and traceability operations, the parts deemed compliant will be re-injected into the after-sales network in order to offer professionals and motorists original components at reduced cost.
The process begins with a depollution phase intended to remove potentially hazardous fluids and materials in accordance with environmental standards. Specialized teams then carry out the selective disassembly of parts mechanical, electronic, bodywork or passenger compartment presenting potential for reuse. Non-usable components are oriented towards recycling channels in order to limit waste and promote the recovery of materials.
The recovered parts will be marketed through several distribution channels in Morocconotably the Stellantis after-sales network, the Distrigo hub as well as specialized digital platforms such as Parts24 and the Moroccan startup Piyes, active in the supply of used parts for insurers and fleet managers.
For the manufacturer, this new infrastructure strengthens the industrial ecosystem already deployed in Morocco around the Kenitra industrial complex and of the Africa Technical Center in Casablanca. The group thus affirms that it wants to support the development of a more sustainable and competitive automobile industry in the Kingdom.
