“We will continue this work at the military planning conference in London next week, where we will announce more details about the composition of the mission, and more than a dozen countries have already offered resources,” Starmer told reporters alongside the leaders of France, Germany and Italy.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, stated that in accordance with the terms of the cease-fire in Lebanon, passage for all merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open during the ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump responded to the announcement by saying that the blockade of Iranian ports “will remain in full force and effect” until the US-Iran deal is “100% implemented”.
Afterwards, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that “as soon as conditions permit” France and Great Britain would begin a purely defensive military mission with the aim of “protecting freedom of navigation” in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgio Maloney, said that her country will provide “marine units” for the defense mission in the Strait of Hormuz, Germany also announced its participation.
