RIMINI – Federico Fellini international airport closes the 2026 summer season with 566,909 passengers, compared to 374,324 in Summer 2025. An increase of 51.4%, equal to 192,585 more travellers, which marks an important leap in size for the Rimini and San Marino airport.
October data also confirms the growth. In the month just ended, a total of 53,727 passengers passed through, of which 52,941 were commercial, with an increase of 25.7% compared to the 42,110 commercial passengers in October 2025.
In the first ten months of 2026, the Fellini reached a total of 591,992 passengers, of which 582,499 were commercial. The increase in commercial traffic compared to the same period in 2025 is 45%. The forecast of exceeding 610 thousand passengers by the end of the year remains confirmed.
Driving the development is above all international traffic, which in the first ten months reached 509,852 passengers, equal to 86.1% of overall commercial traffic.
Summer 2026, passengers and connections increase
The summer season, calculated according to the IATA aeronautical calendar from 29 March to 24 October, also recorded significant growth on the operational front. Aircraft movements went from 2,440 to 3,331 (+36.5%), while the seats offered increased from 444,210 to 660,963 (+48.8%). Scheduled connections increased from 18 to 22.
The weighted average load factor was also positive, rising from 84.3% to 85.8%, confirming that demand grew more rapidly than available capacity.
Ryanair and Wizz Air account for almost 90% of traffic
Among the airlines, Ryanair confirmed itself as the leading carrier at the airport with 323,421 passengers, an increase of 26.9% compared to the previous summer.
The most marked growth was that of Wizz Air, which reached 185,483 passengers against 49,498 in Summer 2025, recording an increase of 274.7%.
Overall, the two companies handled 508,904 passengers, equal to 89.8% of seasonal traffic. Wizz Air contributed 70.6% of the net increase recorded during the summer.
The airport’s offering also includes easyJet, British Airways and Luxair. The 5% decline recorded by easyJet is mainly linked to works on the runway at Basel airport, which affected operations in May.
Poland’s first market, Budapest’s busiest destination
Poland confirms itself as Fellini’s main international market, with 114,423 passengers, equal to 20.2% of the summer season traffic.
Among individual airport destinations, Budapest leads the ranking with 58,318 passengers, followed by Tirana with 53,553 and Krakow with 46,699.
Considering instead the urban markets, London reaches 64,196 passengers through connections with Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow, with a growth of 5.7%. Added to these are the 14,087 passengers from Manchester. The British market thus totals 78,367 travellers, also considering general aviation.
Rimini surpasses Perugia and Ancona: the first Italian airport for growth
The official Assaeroporti data relating to the first nine months of 2026 certify Fellini’s overtaking of Perugia and Ancona. Rimini handled 537,923 passengers, compared to 532,927 in Perugia and 472,145 in Ancona.
The Rimini airport also records the highest percentage growth among the 28 Italian airports that exceed 500 thousand passengers, with an increase of 48.4% compared to 2025. Followed by Pescara (+33.1%) and Trapani (+32.7%).
Corbucci: “In 2027 we aim to exceed 30 scheduled connections”
Leonardo Corbucci, CEO of AIRiminum, underlines the value of the results achieved and the work carried out by the management company.
“The overtaking of Perugia and Ancona, for the first time since the pandemic, and the national record of growth among airports with over 500 thousand passengers mark an important step in our development path. Fellini is conquering a new position in the Italian airport system”.
Corbucci thanked the AIRiminum staff for managing the increase in traffic, highlighting the contribution of their skills and internal organization.
The gaze is already turned to 2027, when the first Ryanair base is expected to open in Rimini, with two aircraft based, together with the new easyJet connection with Berlin.
“With 28 scheduled connections already planned and the goal of exceeding 30 scheduled connections in 2027, we want to further accelerate the path towards one million passengers per year,” said Corbucci.
The CEO also highlighted the role of territorial collaboration, citing the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region, APT Servizi and the five Municipalities of the Riviera through investments in international promotion.
“We are not simply growing an airport: together we are building a new international dimension for the entire territory,” he concluded.
Condolences for the passing of Giuseppe Silvestrini
