SAN MARINO – A new space dedicated to memory, health and prevention will be created in the green area located behind the State Hospital. The project, announced during the final press conference of Pink October 2026, plans to name the area “Prevention Park – in memory of Mariella Mularoni”.
The initiative aims to enhance the green space, making it more usable by patients, family members, healthcare workers and citizens. A place that intends to keep the memory of Mariella Mularoni alive and concretely promote the culture of prevention and health.
The project was announced by the Secretary of State for Health, Massimo Andrea Ugolini, and the Director General of the Institute for Social Security (ISS), Claudio Vagnini. The realization will be developed through the necessary technical and economic checks.
“Dedicating this space to Mariella Mularoni means giving continuity to a commitment that characterized her institutional action: making prevention a concrete part of community life,” declared Massimo Andrea Ugolini. The Secretary underlined the desire to create a place open to people, capable of combining memory, health and usability.
Claudio Vagnini also highlighted the human value of the initiative: “A hospital is made up of care and skills, but also of places capable of welcoming people”. The ISS General Director recalled how prevention does not just concern clinics and exams, but represents a culture to be built daily through information, awareness and attention to people’s needs.
The 2026 edition of October Pink proposed a structured calendar of events dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer. As per tradition, the Three Towers were illuminated in pink, while the exhibition “Soul and Body – The transformations, the signs, the different dimensions of female beauty” was inaugurated at Palazzo SUMS, born from the Ottobre Rosa art competition and open to the public until 15 November. At the end of the exhibition, the winning work will be placed inside the State Hospital.
Other events include the public conference “After cancer, women”, dedicated to fertility, menopause, sexuality and gynecological health during and after the oncology process, the traditional Pink Walk promoted by the San Marino Association of Breast Operated Women (ASDOS) and the new edition of “Yoga for well-being”, organized by the San Marino Oncology Association (AOS) and aimed at cancer patients until December.
The information campaign also reached San Marino families through a postcard dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer, distributed in homes across the Republic.
On the assistance front, the ISS Breast Unit received the DataBreast management software, donated by the San Marino Oncology Association to support the multidisciplinary team in the collection and analysis of data relating to the patient journey, from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up. An information booklet created together with the San Marino Pharmacists Association is also being distributed in ISS pharmacies.
The initiatives were promoted by the ISS in collaboration with the Cultural Institutes, the San Marino Oncology Association, ASDOS and the Soroptimist Club of the Republic of San Marino, with the support of Marlù and Giorgia Boutique and the patronage of the Secretariats of State for Health and for Education and Culture.
