(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited a commercial agricultural production base and met with local residents in Nong Nga village, Mounlapamok District, Champasak Province, during his working visit last weekend.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as the comprehensive leader of Champasak Province and a National Assembly member for the 15th constituency, led a delegation to inspect modern rice production operations managed by the state-owned Chai Samphone Bridge-Road Construction and Complete Electrical Installation Enterprise.
During the visit, the delegation toured a mechanized rice production site utilizing advanced technology. Colonel Sisaengouane, Director of the enterprise, reported on the successful implementation of a 600-hectare paddy field development project in Pamok village. The project, with an investment of over USD 10 million, includes a modern irrigation system and the use of advanced machinery such as drones for fertilizer application, rice transplanting machines, and a rice mill capable of processing up to 40 tons of paddy per day to supply military units and local communities.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone praised the enterprise for its initiative in transforming flood-prone land into productive agricultural fields. He encouraged the company to expand cultivation to 1,000 hectares by 2030 and to serve as a center for transferring agricultural techniques. He also urged the enterprise to purchase agricultural products from local farmers to help improve their livelihoods.
Following the site visit, the Prime Minister met with district authorities and residents of Nong Nga village. He called on local authorities to strengthen political and ideological education, promote self-reliance, and encourage communities to take ownership of local development. He highlighted the importance of advancing commercial production in line with the “Three Builds” policy, based on local potential, including crops such as potatoes and the development of dairy-based handicrafts.
He also emphasized the need to promote education, particularly vocational training, to equip young people with skills to contribute to local development. In terms of national defense and security, he called for strengthening village militia forces and enhancing local security to prevent negative social phenomena.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister presented essential consumer goods and financial support to district authorities and Battalion 24 to support collective activities and improve the living conditions of officers, soldiers, and local residents.
