(KPL) A mass fish die-off was reported on May 3, 2026, in the Sedone River, particularly in the area between Ban Na Kham and Ban Tang Lang in Sanasomboun District, Champasak Province. Authorities have warned the public not to touch or consume any dead fish found in the area.
Initial reports indicate a high level of toxicity. Local poultry reportedly died shortly after consuming the fish, raising serious concerns about a fast-acting toxin that could pose significant health risks to humans.
Officials have issued strict safety instructions, urging residents not to collect, handle, cook, or eat any affected fish under any circumstances.
Communities in downstream areas, including Ban Na Kham, Ban Khili, Kham Yat, Pak Huay, Kaeng Pho, and the Selabam area, have been placed on high alert and advised to exercise extreme caution.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the contamination and have urged the public to follow official guidance while awaiting further updates.
