Þorgerður Katrín, Minister of Foreign Affairs, published a photo of the two, Prime Minister Kristrúna Frostadóttir and Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs Inga Sæland, on Facebook this evening with the message: “Happy summer, dear citizens! Come to Kristrún’s pizza party. Our best prime minister.”
Many people have written comments there and hinted that the pizza is more important to Kristrúna than to the Grindvíkings.
Þorgerður published the post just before nine o’clock tonight. The meeting in Grindavík started at half past five today and ended around six. The representatives of the meeting had been informed at the beginning of the week that Kristrún would not be able to attend the meeting.
In an announcement from the representatives of the meeting that was sent to the media earlier today, it was stated that Kristrún had been “invited to address the meeting and report on the government’s position on the restoration of Grindavík.”
Kristín Ólafsdóttir, Kristrún’s assistant, says in an interview with a news agency that Kristrún’s participation in the meeting was announced without consulting her. The Prime Minister was unable to attend today’s meeting due to personal commitments during the meeting.
“The dinner with the chairmen of the government parties is in no way related to the minister’s absence from the meeting, as it took place well after the residents’ meeting ended.”
She then says that the organizers of the meeting were informed as early as Monday that Kristrún unfortunately could not make it, but the meeting invitation was received on Friday. In the minister’s reply to the organizer, she offered to meet with the town council of Grindavík later this week. She will also meet with the resident association Járngerðir next week.
The press office talked to some guests of the meeting after it. Then there was a complaint that the Prime Minister had not attended. One person who was interviewed said that the Grindvíkings were constantly being turned away.
Ásthildur Lóa Þórsdóttir, Member of Parliament for the People’s Party, says reply to one post on Facebooklike it was pointed out in article DV, that the so-called pizza party was supposed to start at eight o’clock tonight. Kristrún was not able to attend the meeting.
Björn Ingi Hrafnsson, assistant to Sigmundar Davíð Gunnlaugsson, chairman of the Center Party, is one of those who have criticized the pizza party and indicated that it was the reason why Kristrún did not attend the meeting today.
In the news of the crowded residents’ meeting in Grindavík, it was stated that Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir was supposed to present the government’s position on the reconstruction of Grindavík at the meeting, but she canceled her visit due to the summer.
