The general elections in Peru began this Saturday abroad for the 1.2 million Peruvians called to vote outside their country, because the time change for this Sunday’s election day has already begun in Oceania, reported the Foreign Ministry, which also indicated that 2,497 voting tables have been installed.
«Everything is ready to start election day in New Zealand. The voting headquarters for Peruvians in Wellington will be the Embassy of Peru,” the Foreign Ministry announced on social networks.
He noted that Peruvians residing in New Zealand will be the first to vote, since at 2:00 p.m. local Peruvian time it is 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 12 in the oceanic country.
The ministry added that in New Zealand there are three locations and 841 voters, while in Sydney, Australia, nine tables were set up for 4,201 voters and in Tokyo, Japan, 25 tables were set up for 12,031 voters.
The Foreign Ministry added that Madrid has 212 polling stations for 105,493 voters, Milan has 132 polling stations for 64,623 and Hamburg 10 polling stations with 4,456 voters.

On April 10, Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela inaugurated at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the monitoring center from which the incidents of the electoral process will be followed abroad, and which is made up of 25 stations interconnected with the 114 Peruvian consulates abroad.
«We are going to have specially qualified people to resolve any questions. This is a task that has been done, of course, in coordination with the electoral organizations,” said the chancellor when urging the Peruvian community residing abroad to participate in the elections.
In mid-March, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the Foreign Ministry sent electoral material to the 199 cities where there will be voting stations for Peruvians abroad.
For security reasons, the Peruvian Executive decided not to call elections in Venezuela, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
More than 27 million Peruvians are called to the polls this Sunday to elect their national authorities for the period 2026-2031, including the Presidency, after accumulating a decade of political crises where the country has had eight presidents in ten years.
