When that comes pontoon bridges in Itisuarsuk in Ilulissat user payment is introduced. It was adopted by the coalition with the mayoral post of Avannaata Kommunia, Siumut and Naleraq, with a majority on Friday.
The opposition, Demokraatit, Atassut and Inuit Ataqatigiit, however, wanted the case to be sent back to the technical committee for renewed consideration.
– The opposition wants to send the case back to the technical committee, said Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen.
But the majority did not follow that proposal. This means that when the pontoons are set up at some point in Itisuarsuk, users will have to start paying.
DKK 775,000 per year in expenses
It appears from documents to which Sermitsiaq has been given access that the municipality’s administration expects that there will be around 188 places for boats and vessels.
The majority in the municipal council decided that dinghies of up to 21 feet should cost DKK 2,000 per year to have lying by the pontoons. Boats between 21 and 27 feet must cost DKK 4,000 per year, while vessels between 27 and 37 feet must cost DKK 6,000 per year to have lying around.
There will be a port officer at the pontoon bridges, and it will cost the municipality DKK 350,000 per year. It is expected that it will cost the municipality DKK 300,000 to lay out the pontoon bridges in the spring and take them up on land in the autumn. It is estimated that the annual maintenance of the pontoon bridges will cost DKK 125,000. Thus, the annual expenses are expected to be DKK 775,000.
Atassat: Pontoon bridges and footbridges can be destroyed quickly
Atassat came up with new criticism of the project during the meeting. The party considers that the location of the planned pontoon bridge harbor in Itisuarsuk is not good.
– The area where the ice presses on is where stairs have been built. All icebergs are pushed there. Unfortunately, the location is not good.
– If the footbridges are placed where they are now planned, one must expect that they will immediately start to be destroyed by the ice, says Aqqalu C. Jeremiassen during the meeting on behalf of the opposition.
The mayor has an idea – but still without funding
Meeting leader, Mayor Lars Erik Gabrielsen (S), took the floor after Aqqalu C. Jeremiassen’s remarks.
– There is the possibility of establishing a wire solution in relation to icebergs and other things that drift in. We would like it to be implemented. We have not yet set aside money for it, but we will make the request. In this way, we can prevent large icebergs from entering, says the mayor.
What he was talking about is a wire that can be placed across the mouth of the fjord to prevent icebergs from drifting into the fjord.
A controversial issue
Sermitsiaq has previously written several times about the stairwell in Itisuarsuk. The case has not been processed in accordance with the applicable inatsisart law. Sermitsiaq found out from document inspection at the municipality that the work had been started without an area allocation.
Before the work began, neither the standing committees nor the municipal council had made a decision on the matter. It has also previously been described that the mayor and the municipal director did not know the price of the stairs.
Sermitsiaq is still working to get an answer as to which legal authority the municipality started the work with before land allocation had been obtained.
