Havana (Cuba), June 9, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Embassy in Cuba commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the martyrdom of the saint, Mustafa Al-Sayyid, during which the pioneering role of the martyr saint was highlighted.
The event was hosted by the Martyr Saint Mustafa El Sayed School in Cuba, in the presence of the Director of the Africa House, a representative of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples, and Cuban political and media figures, including the granddaughter of the Cuban leader: Raul Castro, in addition to the staff of the Sahrawi Embassy, led by Ambassador Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, and a representation of students in Cuba.
The occasion represented an opportunity to highlight the pioneering leadership role of the first martyr at the beginning of his life, as the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia El Hamra, Oued Eddahab and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in circumstances burdened with difficulties and challenges, but the man had the strength of will and the strength of determination and resolve, which made him possess the most important qualities of a leader: the one with bold and decisive stances, and he was able in a short and dangerous time to launch an exceptional and unique dynamic, represented by: Declaring and leading a liberation war in Western Sahara, after less than three years, combining confronting the devastating and brutal military invasion on two fronts, and establishing a state in exile under complex circumstances.
He culminated his path by embodying a saying that he often repeated, “If you want your rights, you must shed your blood.”
The Sahrawi ambassador to Cuba explained that the martyr Al-Wali was a field commander and a professor with a bright mind, an enlightened leader, a role model and a reference for the Popular Front, an example to be emulated, and a treasure of wisdom and valuable lessons for the rising generations.
The event included a series of cultural activities, the subject of which was the qualities and exploits of the martyr, a song highlighting his leadership role, a chronology of the martyr’s history produced and presented by the school, and an exhibition organized by the cultural attaché at the embassy, Mr. Abdel Majeed: It included books about the history and struggle of the people, pictures and traditional means.
Gifts were also presented to the school, the supervising staff, and invited figures. (SPA)
