The opening of discussions for the signing of a free trade agreement between the Morocco and the Chile was recorded through the signing of a joint declaration between the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hejiraand the Chilean Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Paula Estévez. The signed document reflects the desire of the two countries to establish a modern regulatory framework aimed at stimulating trade in goods and services, while promoting the diversification of investments, reports the specialized platform Chilean Fruits.
“This is an important first step towards concluding a trade agreement with Morocco. The Moroccan economyin full growth, complements that of Chile. With a population of around 40 million inhabitants, the country displays strong dynamism and promising growth prospects. THE Morocco is also open to foreign investment,” said Paula Estévez.
The Chilean official also highlighted the strategic position of the Kingdom in the decision to initiate these negotiations. “Beyond the attractiveness of its economy, the Morocco constitutes a gateway to the African continent, with which we currently have no trade agreement “, she stressed.
THE commercial exchanges between the two countries have recorded notable growth in recent years, going from $10.4 million in 2003 to $80.3 million in 2025. Over the last five years, bilateral trade has grown at an average annual rate of 31.5%.
Paula Estévez also included this initiative in the market diversification strategy pursued by his government. “The progress made in these discussions is part of a market diversification strategy that we are actively promoting in order to create new opportunities for our export sector, both for goods and services. It is with this in mind that we have worked to revitalize our relationships with emerging economies such as Morocco, India and the Philippines, among others,” she said.
