Strengthening urban infrastructure and improving the road network
Structuring projects: As part of efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve the road network in the province of Khenifra, the governor of the province, Mohammed Adil Ahourane, chaired, Tuesday June 16, 2026, in the presence of elected officials of the province, representatives of the security and military authorities as well as officials of external services, the official launch ceremony of the work of the first phase of the Zerktouni Avenue development project. This axis extends from the bus station roundabout, near the Abou Al Kacem Zayani high school, to the headquarters of the commune of Aghbalou Azegza, located next to the waterfall.
On this occasion, the governor insisted to the winning company on the need to take into consideration the period of strong commercial activity that the city experiences during the summer season. He notably called for avoiding the opening of trenches in front of businesses during this period and for accelerating the pace of execution of the work in order to limit the inconvenience for traders and users. This project is among the most important structuring projects in the city, given the strategic role of this road axis which constitutes one of the main arteries connecting several neighborhoods and public facilities. It experiences heavy traffic throughout the day, especially since it is part of National Road No. 8 connecting the cities of Fez and Meknes to those of Béni Mellal and Marrakech.
A budget of around 49 million dirhams was mobilized for the completion of this first tranche, financed by the municipality of Khénifra. The duration of the work is set at twelve months. This project should help improve traffic flow, strengthen road safety and facilitate travel for people with disabilities. The second phase concerns the section extending from the headquarters of the caïdat of Aglmam Azegza to the medical analysis laboratory. Its implementation is supervised by the Regional Project Execution Agency of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, for a forecast cost of 41.6 million dirhams.
It will also strengthen the attractiveness of the city and support its economic and social dynamics through improving the quality of infrastructure and public spaces. The planned work relates in particular to the strengthening and rehabilitation of the road structure, the repair of sidewalks, the upgrading of the rainwater drainage network in order to reduce the impact of precipitation on traffic, as well as the modernization of the public lighting network and the installation of various horizontal and vertical signaling equipment. The project also includes the development of green spaces and the improvement of public space components, with the aim of strengthening urban aesthetics and raising the quality of services offered to the population.
In the same context, explanations were presented to the governor concerning the second phase of the project, which extends from the headquarters of the caïdat of Aghbalou Azegza, at the level of the waterfall, to the analysis laboratory and the “Dar Al Maqha” café. This tranche benefits from funding of 41 million dirhams provided by the council of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region. The opening of bids relating to this market is scheduled for June 24, 2026.
Alongside these structuring projects, the province of Khénifra has experienced, in recent years, a dynamic of sustained socio-economic development, driven by the implementation of several investment and infrastructure modernization programs. This development is reflected in the strengthening of basic facilities, the improvement of public services, as well as the promotion of territorial attractiveness with a view to stimulating investment and creating employment opportunities. Thanks to this dynamic, the province is gradually adopting a logic of integrated development aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens and consolidating its role within the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region.
