More than two dozen British police officers from the unit responsible for protecting the royal family have been suspended and are under internal investigation after allegations emerged that they fell asleep and left their posts unattended.

Of the 23 police officers under investigation, 21 have been placed on restricted duties, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The case was brought to attention after the publication The Sun reported that policemen would have been surprised sleeping on duty and leaving their posts at Windsor Castle.
“The alleged behavior falls short of the high standards required of officers, particularly in frontline protection roles”, reports the Metropolitan Police, quoted by Reuters.
Following the investigation, two of the officers were not placed on restricted duty, but they will no longer be posted to royal residences for the duration of the investigation.
The police stated that the checks continue etcand at other royal residences.
Windsor Castle, located in the west of the British capital, is one of the residences frequently used by the British royal family for official events.
