“The Greens” midfielder Ibrahim Mazza was chosen among the most prominent young players who shone during the group stage of the 2026 World Cup finals, according to the list of brilliant talents in the first round of the competition revealed by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The 20-year-old Bayern Leverkusen star has imposed himself as one of the most prominent pillars of the Algerian national team during the World Cup currently being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Maza participated primarily in the three matches played by the “Greens” in the tenth group competitions, and was distinguished by the quality of his technical performance, his keen vision in the playmaking, and his ability to lead the Algerian attacks, contributing significantly to the national team’s historic qualification to the top 16, according to what FIFA reported on its official website.
The young Algerian international also topped the list of the most successful players in dribbles during the group stage, and won the best player award in the match in which the Algerian team won over its Jordanian counterpart with a score of (2-1), a victory that played a decisive role in ensuring qualification to the next round.
In its list of young players born on January 1, 2005, who excelled in the group stage, FIFA praised the “tactical intelligence, creativity and influence” shown by the Algerian player, considering him one of the most promising prospects in Algerian football.
The former Hertha Berlin player shares this prestigious list with a number of young talents who excelled in the first round, such as the Spanish Lamine Yamal, the Swiss Johan Manzambi, and the Senegalese Ibrahim Mbaye.
All eyes will now turn to the Canadian city of Vancouver, where Ibrahim Mazza and his teammates in the national team will face Switzerland next Friday, starting at 4 a.m. Algeria time, for the round of 16, with the ambition of continuing the journey in the 2026 World Cup finals.
