At the Royal Theater in Rabat, world jazz icon Dee Dee Bridgewater delivered a concert of rare intensity, transporting music lovers on a musical journey where jazz, soul and emotion intertwined.
Dressed in an elegant white outfit, the American artist opened her show with “People Make the World Go Round”, immediately setting the tone for an evening dedicated to humanism and sharing. Carried by a powerful voice and a magnetic stage presence, the singer then performed “Danger Zone” and “Trying Times”, easily alternating between softer and more vibrant passages, revealing the full extent of her vocal range.
Throughout the concert, Dee Dee Bridgewater navigated with virtuosity between original compositions and reinterpretations of great jazz and soul standards, transforming the Royal Theater into a true space of musical communion. Each piece was greeted with long applause from a won over audience, sensitive to the sincerity of his interpretation and the artistic demands of his performance.
An essential figure in contemporary jazz, the singer has for several decades pursued an international career punctuated by prestigious distinctions and collaborations with the biggest names on the world music scene.
Meanwhile, a few kilometers away, the OLM Souissi stage vibrated to the rhythm of hip-hop and R&B with Ty Dolla Sign. Welcomed by the cheers of festival-goers, the American artist quickly imposed his energy, performing several of his biggest hits, including “Location”, “Work From Home”, “Something New”, “Swalla” and “All In”.
Accompanied by his DJ, Ty Dolla Sign also surprised his audience by playing electric guitar on several songs, while the visual effects and immersive scenography helped maintain an electric atmosphere throughout the evening.
In a particularly appreciated moment of proximity, the singer got off stage to meet his fans, before unveiling, for the first time in concert, a new track. Draped in the Moroccan flag and performing a few dance steps, he expressed his emotion and assured that he would keep unforgettable memories of his time in Rabat.
The communion with the public continued when its DJ wore the jersey of the Moroccan national football team, chanting “Dima Maghreb” several times to the ovations of the festival-goers. Ty Dolla Sign himself then put on the Atlas Lions jersey before concluding his concert with a series of remixes of international hits in a euphoric atmosphere.
Born in Los Angeles, Ty Dolla Sign, whose real name is Tyrone William Griffin Jr., has established himself as one of the references in the hip-hop and R&B scene thanks to a career punctuated by collaborations with the biggest international stars.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 21st edition of the Mawazine – Rythmes du Monde Festival continues until June 27 in Rabat and Salé. True to its vocation, the event brings together world-renowned artists from varied musical universes, once again confirming its status as an essential meeting place for cultural exchanges and dialogue between peoples through music.
