The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Wednesday that members of the 4+4 mini-dialogue committee had reached a consensus on the presidential election law during the fourth round of consultations held at the mission’s office in Tunis.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, UNSMIL said its Tunis office hosted the fourth round of the mini-dialogue consultations aimed at reaching agreement on the first two milestones of the UN-facilitated roadmap.
The mission stated that discussions took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, with participants finalizing understandings reached during previous meetings regarding the parliamentary election law and the completion of the Board of Commissioners of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).
UNSMIL noted that the consultations have now addressed most election-related issues linked to the first two stages of the roadmap and are nearing completion of the understandings required for the electoral track.
The mission also said participants agreed to hold a fifth round of consultations during the first half of next month to finalize remaining discussions and build on the progress achieved so far.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Walid Al-Lafi; Head of the Executive Team for Strategic Initiatives and Projects at the Prime Minister’s Office, Mustafa Al-Manaa; Chairman of the Financial Committee of the High Council of State, Abduljalil Al-Shawish; former Libyan Political Dialogue Forum member Ali Abdulaziz; former head of Benghazi’s municipal steering council Abdulrahman Al-Abbar; former Libyan ambassador to France Al-Shaibani Abu Hamoud; House of Representatives member Adam Bousakhra; and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Monitoring Oversight Bodies, Zayed Hadiya.
