In elementary schools, at 11 a.m., the mathematics test was completed, and the first impressions of the eighth graders we talked to support the fact that their tasks were not too difficult.
Some were troubled by the last, 20 problem with proportion, and one student of the “Nikola Tesla” elementary school told us that she had seen this type of problem for the first time.
He also says that today’s test was easier than the test of the junior high school graduation and he expects to have 19 points.
– I did a great job on the test, it was a hundred times easier than the Serbian one yesterday. We are all satisfied. The last three tasks were the most difficult, and the rest were all familiar and easy. Not to exaggerate, but I expect more than 15 points for sure. The most difficult thing for me was converting it into percentages – another eighth grader from “Tesla” told us.
And on the other side of the city – in Elementary School “Skadarlija” eighth graders give the impression that the last three tasks were the most difficult for them. These are some of the tasks in which the students were asked to show the procedure by which they came to the solution.
Predrag Terzić, president of the Belgrade branch of the Society of Mathematicians of Serbia, points out for Danas that the test included 10 tasks from the basic level, seven from the intermediate level and three from the advanced level, which is a common structure that has appeared in recent years.
– What I noticed as interesting is that there are a lot of questions with life examples. For my taste, the dough doesn’t have as much geometry as it should. Children prepare so much for geometry in the eighth grade, they make a cylinder, a cup, a prism, a ball, a pyramid, and in the test there was only one problem from geometry, rounding. There were three tasks that required a procedure. The test is generally molded and patterned. Nothing new and everything seen before – sums up our interlocutor.
From his point of view, the tasks were not difficult, but he repeats that a little more and a little stronger geometry is missing.
– It is ungrateful at this moment to comment on what the result will be, but I am really interested in how the students will cope with some practical things that appeared on the test – Terzić points out.
He adds that tasks with examples from everyday life are in the collections for preparation for the final exam, but that they are not forced so much in the curriculum.
Tomorrow, the students take a test in the subject of their choice, which ends the passing of the junior high school diploma.
The preliminary results will be announced on June 19 at 8 a.m. in schools and on the Moja sredna škola portal.
