The Société Régionale Multiservices (SRM) Casablanca-Settat opens the doors of its strategic infrastructures to university students. A group of university students in the “applied geosciences sector” from the Faculty of Sciences of Aïn Chock had an immersive experience on Tuesday at the Médiouna STEP and its extension site.
A visit which is part of the cycle of liquid sanitation and the reuse of wastewater. According to Mohamed Hajraoui, head of the Purification department at SRM Casablanca-Settat, this approach aims to bring citizens closer to the professions of regional society, in particular water and liquid sanitation. “The Médiouna STEP constitutes a strategic infrastructure of the Region’s sanitation system. It is based on a treatment process in three main stages: a pretreatment intended for the elimination of coarse pollution, a biological treatment for fine pollution and micropollution, as well as a tertiary treatment through ultrafiltration membranes. This innovative technology, used for the first time in North Africa on this site, makes it possible to obtain very high quality purified water,” he explained during this educational visit. The visit also made it possible to present to the students the station extension project currently underway, designed to support the increase in flow and pollutant load. For the students, this immersion was particularly instructive. “We were amazed at how well the water is treated. We discovered the different stages, from pretreatment to tertiary treatment,” indicated Ngarori Yan-Dominique, undergraduate student, Applied Geosciences sector at the Faculty of Sciences of Aïn Chock in Casablanca. These educational visits highlight the concrete actions carried out by the SRM Casablanca-Settat in favor of the preservation of the environment and the sustainable management of resources.
