PARAMARIBO — On its website, the Suriname Police Corps (KPS) reports three deaths between April 18 and 21 this week. This concerns the nineteen-year-old woman RM, who was brought dead to the Emergency Department (ER) of the University Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) early on Tuesday morning after drinking a homemade smoothie, the 61-year-old Brazilian SB, who died on Monday in a traffic accident involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in Babunhol in the Brokopondo district, and the 68-year-old WK, who succumbed on Saturday after falling from a ten meter high rambutan tree to have fallen.
The KPS also indicates on its website that JS has been imprisoned in connection with the death of his 28-year-old partner AM. Her lifeless body was found on the grounds of the Wee Wee Gabsie secondary school on April 11 with injuries to the limbs and the left side of the face. The Capital Crimes department continues the investigation.
Smoothie
RM became unwell in the early morning of Tuesday after drinking a homemade smoothie. Her 29-year-old partner WK, who had taken her to the emergency room, told Munder police that after drinking the smoothie – a mix of bacon and milk – the victim suddenly suffered from severe stomach cramps and cried out in pain. He immediately took her to the emergency room of the Sint Vintcentius Hospital, where, according to the police, medical efforts did not yield the desired results.
The man was then referred to the AZP ER for further treatment. However, upon arrival, the doctor on duty determined that the woman had already died. Her lifeless body was seized by the police on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service (OM) so that an autopsy can be performed. The investigation into this case has been transferred to the Geyersvlijt police station. The woman lived in that resort.
Traffic accident
SB died Monday after an ATV rollover and the vehicle landed on him. When the Brokopondo police arrived, the Brazilian had already died. According to the police, it was initially assumed that the victim had collided with a trailer parked along the road, but this later turned out not to be the case.
SB probably suffered a cervical vertebra fracture as a result of the traffic accident, which proved fatal. The external examination found no visible injuries or traces of violence, the KPS said. On behalf of the Public Prosecution Service, the remains were handed over to the relatives after an autopsy.
Rambutan
Just after ten to seven on Saturday evening, the Command Center was informed that WK had been brought dead to the Wanica Regional Hospital. The victim had injuries to his wrists and cervical vertebra.
The preliminary investigation by the Houttuin police revealed that WK had fallen from a ten-meter-high rambutan tree due to a branch that had broken off. After being found by a family member, the victim was urgently transported to the RZW, but upon arrival he was found to have already died.
Partner arrested
JS was arrested by troops from the Capital Crimes department in connection with the investigation into the death of his 28-year-old partner AM. On April 11, her lifeless body was discovered on the grounds of the Wee Wee Gabsieschool in Brownsweg. An autopsy has shown that the victim died as a result of abuse in combination with heart failure, the KPS writes. The investigation is being continued by Capital Crimes.
The Brownsweg police found the Maroon woman lying on her back along a walkway with injuries to, among other things, the head near the left eye and her left leg. It was already suspected then that a crime had been committed. The woman’s lifeless body was therefore seized on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service so that an autopsy could be carried out. The result of the autopsy led to the arrest of JS
