Key event on Belarus-China agenda. Ambassador comments on visit of Chinese vice president to Minsk

“This visit is one of the key events in Chinese-Belarusian relations this year,” the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission emphasized. “It has given powerful impetus to the implementation of the important agreements between the heads of the two states and to enhancing the quality and level of the Chinese-Belarusian strategic partnership.”

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng traveled to Belarus on an official visit on 6-8 June at the invitation of the Belarusian government. During the visit, he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. Additionally, he held talks with Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin, First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov, with whom he jointly participated in the opening ceremony of the China-Belarus Forum on Industrial and Investment Cooperation and the Belarusian Exports to China Forum within the framework of the Belagro 2026 exhibition.

Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan noted: “It is the heads of state who set the course for the further development of Belarus-China partnership. We see that political mutual trust is reaching a new level. Under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, China–Belarus relations have reached a high level of all‑weather, comprehensive strategic partnership.” At the meeting with the Belarusian leader, Han Zheng conveyed Xi Jinping’s sincere greetings and reiterated China’s readiness, together with the Belarusian side, to firmly follow the course set by the diplomacy of the two heads of state, uphold the fine tradition of mutual support, explore new areas of mutually beneficial development, strengthen the foundation of friendship between the two countries, and promote the continuous deepening and consolidation of China-Belarus relations and cooperation.

The ambassador also emphasized the importance of giving each other firm support and continually filling China-Belarus relations with new content. “Against the backdrop of profound changes in the international situation, this visit has fully demonstrated the firm determination of China and Belarus to jointly confront global challenges and defend their common interests,” the Chinese diplomat said.

“At the meeting between the Chinese vice president and the Belarusian prime minister, it was stated that China’s determination to develop relations with and deepen cooperation with Belarus is unshakeable. China will, as before, support Belarus in its efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests. The two countries should focus on high-quality joint development of the Belt and Road initiative and continuously create new points of growth in cooperation. China is ready, together with Belarus, to defend the shared interests of the Global South and bring stability to a turbulent world,” the Chinese ambassador said.

The ambassador also noted that practical cooperation between the two states is yielding great results, with trade and investment gaining new drivers of growth. The Chinese vice president, together with the Belarusian first deputy prime minister, participated in the opening of the China–Belarus Forum on Industrial and Investment Cooperation and Belarusian Exports to China Forum. The events drew together about 1,000 representatives of government bodies and business communities from both countries, who held business talks and signed a number of memoranda of intent on cooperation. Han Zheng noted that the Chinese side is ready to continue treating the Belarusian side with sincerity and trust, to strengthen the alignment of development strategies, to fully unlock the growth potential of bilateral trade, and to expand investment cooperation in the manufacturing sector. China will continue to pursue high-quality development and broaden high-level openness, offering all countries of the world, including Belarus, wider market opportunities and development prospects.

The head of the Chinese diplomatic mission drew attention to the importance of the Chinese vice president visiting the Belagro 2026 exhibition where he examined in detail the quality and export potential of high‑quality Belarusian agricultural products and agricultural machinery.

2006 marks the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. Han Zheng laid a wreath at the Victory Monument, which demonstrates the firm determination of China and Belarus to jointly preserve historical memory and defend the achievements of victory in World War II.

“The visit of the Chinese vice president was crowned with success and gave a new impetus to the development of China–Belarus relations. The Chinese side expresses its readiness, following the important agreements of the two heads of state as the main guideline, to jointly with the Belarusian side deepen political mutual trust, give each other unwavering support, expand practical cooperation, strengthen friendly ties between the peoples, and tirelessly raise China–Belarus all‑weather, comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level,” the Chinese ambassador said.
