CHRISTOPHER Samaroo, the father of Joshua Samaroo, who was killed in a confrontation with police in January, was admitted to the Port of Spain General Hospital yesterday morning after complaining of feeling unwell while in police custody.
He remained at hospital under police guard last night after being taken there around 7.30 a.m.
Samaroo, who has been in police custody since Monday, was detained following a radio interview on i95.5FM about the emotional toll he faced after losing his son.
While discussing his son’s death he expressed his frustration over the circumstances surrounding the shooting and expressed limited confidence in the outcome of legal proceedings.
During the interview on June 21, he made comments directed at police and this was later widely circulated on social media.
In a letter on June 24, he stated that if the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) intended to attribute the recording to him, investigators should first obtain expert evidence.
‘There is a voice recording being circulated. If the TTPS wishes to say that is my voice, they need to get a voice expert as I am exercising my right against self-incrimination,’ he wrote.
Joshua Samaroo was killed on January 20 during a police-involved shooting in St Augustine.
Joshua’s common law wife, Kaia Sealy, is facing several charges stemming from Samaroo’s death, including manslaughter, as well as three charges of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and other related offences.
