Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that they attacked United States military bases in the region in response to the US attack. This was reported by the AFP agency last night. Tehran did not specify where it was attacking, but Bahrain said several Iranian drones were headed for its territory and accused Tehran of sabotaging peace efforts. The US military on Friday carried out new strikes on targets in Iran in response to Thursday’s attack on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington blamed on Iran. In response to the US strikes, Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the US as a “flagrant violation” of a recently signed memorandum of understanding.

“If the aggression is repeated, our response will be more extensive than this time,” the Revolutionary Guards said, according to a post by state television on the Telegram network.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday that aircraft struck Iran’s missile and drone depots as well as coastal radar sites after Iran carried out a drone attack on the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely on Thursday.
According to the statement, the ship was sailing off the coast of Oman after leaving the Strait of Hormuz when it was hit by a drone.
CENTCOM called the attack an “unprovoked act of aggression” that violated a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran and disrupted freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important trade corridors.
A few tens of minutes after the announcement of the start, the American attack ended, CNN TV reported, citing an American official.
According to the Revolutionary Guards, one of the strikes was aimed at the island of Sirik in the Strait of Hormuz, but it was repelled. The response to the US strikes will be “swift and decisive”, the guards said immediately, according to Reuters.
Earlier on Friday, US President Trump blamed Iran for at least four drone attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and said US forces shot down three of the drones. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has fired at least four suicide drones at ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. One of the drones hit the top of a large and very expensive cargo ship,” the US president said on his Truth Social network.
Trump did not say exactly when the alleged attack took place or what vessel it was. It was damaged, he said, but continued sailing. It also claims that the US shot down the other three drones allegedly fired by Iran. “It is clear that this is a flagrant violation of our ceasefire agreement,” he added. Tehran did not directly claim the attack.
The British Maritime Trade Operations Organization (UKMTO) reported on Thursday that an unknown projectile hit a cargo ship off the coast of Oman and damaged part of its deck.
The attack comes as the United States is negotiating with Iran to reach an agreement that would officially end the war in the Middle East. Tehran has previously threatened ships to stop moving through the Strait of Hormuz without its permission.
Following the vessel’s collision in the strait, the International Maritime Agency (IMO) announced it was suspending operations to evacuate some 600 ships and 11,000 sailors stranded in the Persian Gulf as a result of the Middle East war. Approximately 2,500 stranded sailors managed to evacuate. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said at least 115 ships were involved in the operation, which began earlier in the week.
The London-based UN agency has temporarily suspended evacuations following Thursday’s attack on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman that had previously passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
The IMO is currently negotiating with Iran, Oman and the United States to obtain new safety guarantees before evacuations resume.
The organization announced on Tuesday that it planned to evacuate more than 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. The strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s key trade arteries, has been virtually blocked for several weeks after Iran began threatening and attacking civilian vessels, according to the IMO. Subsequently, the United States imposed a blockade on Iranian ports. According to the IMO, the conflict has so far claimed the lives of at least 14 sailors and more than 40 merchant ships have been targeted.
According to data from the Kpler platform, cited by the AFP agency, the operation of cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz decreased on Thursday compared to Wednesday. Wednesday’s figure was the highest since the beginning of the war. Most ships used the so-called Oman Corridor for navigation.
The virtual shutdown in early March due to the war between Iran, the United States and Israel had a strong impact on commodity prices on world markets.
The war that the US and Israel started against Iran in February was halted by a cease-fire. In mid-June, Washington and Tehran signed a so-called memorandum of understanding, which set 60 days for a final peace agreement. The document also provides for the restoration of free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for the export of oil and gas from the countries of the Persian Gulf.
US Vice President JD Vance said on Friday after the US attack, which Washington describes as retaliatory, that violence will be responded to with violence. “If they have concerns about how the MOU is being implemented, they can pick up the phone,” Vance said, according to the AP.
