A 68-YEAR-OLD woman fought off an alleged intruder with a cutlass, after he reportedly entered her property and threatened to kill her at Golconda Settlement, Ste Madeleine, on Tuesday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 8.50 p.m. when the woman was at her home and heard a man shouting outside.
On checking, she allegedly saw a man she knew as ‘Dougla’ on the roadway near her home. Investigators said the suspect then opened the front gate and entered the property without permission.
According to police reports, the woman confronted the man and asked why he was on her premises. The suspect allegedly began making death threats while advancing toward her.
Fearing for her safety, the woman armed herself with a cutlass when the man reportedly confronted her again on the front steps of her home.
Police said she struck the suspect several times, causing injuries. An alarm was raised and residents rushed to her assistance, detaining the suspect until officers from the Ste Madeleine Police Station arrived.
The 57-year-old suspect of Golconda Settlement was arrested and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment. Crime scene investigators processed the scene, photographed and seized potential evidence, and got a statement from the homeowner. Investigations are continuing under the supervision of officers of the Ste Madeleine Police Station.
