The re-established public job site Suli.gl is exactly what the media director has feared.
The public job portal Suli.gl has been re-established in a new and modern version, informs Naalakkersuisut.
The portal was closed last year, when the work to establish a new one ran into trouble and the process cost the then naalakkersuisoq Bentiaraq Ottosen his place in Naalakkersuisut.
The reason was that the work on a new portal had been started without a grant from the Finance and Tax Committee in Inatsisartut.
The work on a new public job portal also received criticism from the business world, including the director of Mediehuset Sermitsiaq, Masaana Egede, because the market for job advertisements constitutes a significant source of income for the media house and a number of other players on the market.
Director: Will weaken democracy
The fear is that the new public portal will compete directly with the private ones on the market, and the re-establishment of Suli.gl certainly does not go down well with Masaana Egede.
– We stand with a sitting government that directly weakens democracy and the private business community.
– They are creating exactly what we have feared and warned against, says Masaana Egede, who previously warned that lost income from job advertisements could ultimately mean layoffs at Sermitsiaq.
Masaana Egede insists that Naalakkersuisut emphasized that it should be a portal that should make it easier for apprentices to find companies that have apprenticeships.
Biggest customer has become biggest competitor
But the new portal also has a large number of other free options for general job advertising, and according to Masaana Egede, the biggest customer will now also be the profession’s biggest competitor.
– The job market and job sites are the livelihood of several private companies – including Sermitsiaq, he says and continues:
– I hope politicians from all parties are aware of this. I don’t think they are aware of what they are losing by acting the way they do.
Job portal owner: Will the customers disappear?
Owner of the job portal Suliffissat.gl, Johannes Qvist-Markussen, is also deeply disappointed by the launch of the public job portal:
– It is just so wrong to be exposed to competition for taxpayers’ money.
– I am worried about how our customers react. If they switch to the free job portal, we will lose our main income, says Johannes Qvist-Markussen.
Must create an overview of apprenticeships
In connection with the re-establishment of Suli.gl, Naalakkersuisut emphasizes that the portal supports registration of information about the apprentice and trainee area.
According to Naalakkersuisut, the companies can register information about the employment of apprentices and trainees, while the trade schools can register how many apprentices the individual company is approved for.
It will provide an overview of the development, it says:
“Naalakkersuisut focuses on getting most young people into work and education. It is therefore with great pleasure that a portal is now being re-established which can give young people the opportunity to see available apprenticeships and internships,” says Naalakkersuisut for labor market Maritha Broberg.
Sermitsiaq is working on getting a comment from Naalakkersuisut on the criticism from Masaana Egede.
