PARAMARIBO — On Friday (today) on appeal, the Court of Justice confirmed the judgment that subdistrict court judge Robert Praag pronounced on Monday in the cases between Wendy Jap-A-Joe as (then) director of the Telecommunications Authority Suriname (TAS), the state and members of the supervisory board, with additional grounds. In addition, the court ordered Jap-A-Joe to pay the legal costs incurred on appeal.
The communications unit of the Court of Justice reported on Friday that the costs of the state and the supervisory board have been estimated at SRD 9,000. Jap-A-Joe has also been ordered to pay the legal costs to the TAS, also estimated at SRD 9,000.
Jap-A-Joe, which has Chandra Algoe as its lawyer, had filed a lawsuit to continue her work as director undisturbed, even though her employment contract had expired on October 20 this year. The TAS, in turn, had demanded that the director be prohibited from performing actions in the name of the TAS.
Prague had rejected the director’s claims on Monday and granted the claims of the supervisory board. The judge ruled that Jap-A-Joe had to vacate the TAS building and was subsequently not allowed to enter it again. She also had to pay the legal costs of the summary proceedings.
