A 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life after reportedly falling into the water during a fishing trip with two other juveniles off Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, on Friday, according to police reports.
An anonymous caller alerted the Green Turtle Cay Police Station about the missing teen at sea. In response, the Green Turtle Cay Volunteer Fire Department launched a search operation. The search team located the boy and administered CPR, but he was pronounced dead by a local physician, who confirmed he had sustained a fractured skull.
The initial investigation revealed that around 4:00 p.m., the deceased and three other juveniles—aged 12, 15, and 16—departed Green Turtle Cay on a 17-foot Cobia vessel for a fishing trip, police said.
“The vessel was reportedly being operated by the 12-year-old. While in waters near Manjack Cay (Nunjack Cay), the deceased was standing on the bow of the vessel holding a rope when he reportedly fell into the water,” police said.
“The occupants of the vessel heard a loud sound and observed blood in the water. Despite their efforts, they were unable to locate him. The group subsequently returned to Green Turtle Cay to report the incident and seek assistance. Officers from Marsh Harbour have since been deployed to assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing.”
