    The Superintendency of Transportation fines Precoltur $4,215 million for irregularities found after an accident that left 17 dead in Antioquia


    The Transportation Superintendency sanctioned with more than $4,215 million to Precoltur SAS, a company involved in the accident that occurred on December 14, 2025 in Antioquia, when a special transport bus left the road and left 17 people died.

    According to the entity, the administrative investigation was opened after the tragedy to verify whether the company complied with legal obligations, operational and security required to provide the special transportation service.

    During the process, aspects related to the vehicles, the company’s qualification, the communication mechanisms with the drivers and the staff training programs. According to Tatiana Rueda Ibarra, advisor to the office of the Superintendency of Transportation, the investigations allowed the identification of “multiple breaches that compromised the safety of passengers”stated the official in a video on X.

    Among the irregularities found, the official mentioned the “lack of communication system with drivers, absence of technological structure and assigned personnel, drivers without full affiliation to the social security system, incomplete training programs and irregularities in vehicle linkage contracts.”

    Rueda Ibarra pointed out that these situations “broke the principle of transportation security,” which is why the entity proceeded to impose economic sanctions against the company.

    “As a result of this investigation, The Superintendency of Transportation imposed sanctions of more than 4,215 million pesos on the company Precoltur SAS“said the official. She added that the measure seeks to “guarantee that all transport companies comply with their legal obligations and, above all, protect the lives of passengers and transport users.”

    The advisor also assured that the entity will maintain surveillance work on the sector. “User safety is our priority“, he indicated. He also stated that the Superintendency will continue to exercise control over special transportation companies to “avoid accidents and guarantee that the service is safe, legal and reliable“.

    The sanction is known six months after the incident that shocked the country.

    What is known about the accident

    The accident occurred in the early morning of December 14, 2025 in the El Chispero sectoron the road that connects the municipalities of Remedios and Zaragoza, in the northeast of Antioquia. The bus carried to a group of recent graduates from the Liceo Antioqueño de Bello who were returning from a class excursion to Tolú and Coveñas, on the Caribbean coast.

    The authorities reported 17 dead, 16 students and the driver of the vehicle, and 20 people injured. The car fell off a cliff and ended up in an area that was difficult to access, forcing a large rescue operation to be deployed.

    According to reports known at that time, There were 37 people traveling in the vehicle.. Both the Mayor’s Office of Bello and the Liceo Antioqueño itself clarified that the excursion was not organized by the educational institution, but directly by the students and their families.
