The National Forecast Center of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology reports that this weekend the rains and risks of flooding will continue, so several provinces remain on alert.
In this Friday’s weather report, Indomet details that locally moderate to strong downpours with thunderstorms and gusts of wind occur towards localities of Monte Cristi, while others, which will probably affect Samaná during the next few hours, are seen to the east of said peninsula.
On the other hand, scattered morning showers are expected in localities of La Altagracia, the coastal area of Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macorís, among others, as a consequence of the east/southeast wind, the approach of a frontal system and the incidence of the prefrontal trough.
It will be from midday that rainfall will increase, predominating over Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Elías Piña, San Juan, Puerto Plata, Espaillat and Valverde, intensifying as moderate to strong downpours locally with thunderstorms and gusts of wind until the early hours of the night.
La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Monseñor Nouel, Dajabón, Santiago and Puerto Plata remain on alert.
“Tomorrow, Saturday, the proximity of the frontal system, its trough and abundant humidity will maintain favorable conditions for rains of varying intensity to be generated throughout the day; starting as passing rains, from early morning, in localities on the Caribbean coast, including Greater Santo Domingo, intensifying in the afternoon, mainly towards the interior of the country, as moderate to heavy downpours with possible isolated hail, thunderstorms and gusts of wind, which in turn will spread over Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Santiago, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, San Juan, among other provinces of Cibao, but especially towards the Central Mountain Range, the border area and the southwest,” the report says.
Heat
Temperatures will feel hot, mainly in the afternoon, due to the east/southeast wind flow, which is humid and warm. The thermal sensation will be higher, especially in urban areas. Therefore, they recommend wearing light clothing, drinking enough fluids and not exposing yourself to the sun for prolonged periods of time.
