Gijs Tuinman, former State Secretary for Defense in the Schoof cabinet, is no longer a member of BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB). He canceled his BBB party membership three weeks ago, he said in the television program on Friday Good morning Netherlandsn.d (WNL).
Tuinman regularly calls Member of Parliament Mona Keijzer, he said in the broadcast. Keijzer left the BBB in February when Henk Vermeer took over after the departure of Caroline van der Plas. “The leadership change has hurt me a lot,” he says. An attempt by sixty BBB members, including Tuinman, to get Keijzer backcame to nothing at the time.
Politically orphaned
When asked whether he would like to help Keijzer with possibly building a new party, Tuinman initially kept quiet. But after some insistence he answers in the affirmative. For the time being, the former soldier is “not only an official citizen, I am now also a political orphan.”
It is not very surprising that Tuinman supports Keijzer. He was known to be dissatisfied with the direction of the BBB. He says he has tried to broaden the party and to stick to the “no bullshit” character of the party, instead of “passing the hat with the privileges in the back rooms.”
Keijzer left the BBB because, according to her, it had been agreed that she would become the new party leader. Henk Vermeer gave a different lecture. According to the current BBB leader, he was chosen because Keijzer threatened to resign and because she allegedly sought rapprochement with PVV splitter Gidi Markuszower.
