DAKAR – Positive debut for Margherita Gregoroni at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games. The fifteen-year-old San Marino flag-bearer set her personal best in the 100 meters freestyle, stopping the clock at 1’00”54 in the heats held this morning at the Complexe Tour de l’Œuf.
Gregoroni finished in second place in the sixth heat, gaining 25th position overall out of 64 participating athletes. A result that represents a good start to his experience in international competition.
The blue and white swimmer will now have a day of recovery before returning to the pool on Wednesday 4 November for the 200 meters medley. The last scheduled event will be Friday 6 November, with the 200 meters freestyle.
The assessment of the coach Luca Corsetti was positive, commenting on the performance as follows: “A more than decent performance, considering the difficult weather conditions and the fact that it was not one of his favorite races. The second place in the heat and the personal record are positive signs and represent a good start”.
