The Chinese authorities have introduced temporary restrictions on the issuance of licenses for unmanned vehicles after a system failure in Wuhan, reports Kazinform’s own correspondent in Beijing, citing South China Morning Post.
Late last month, Baidu’s Apollo Go self-driving taxis reportedly suffered a major technical glitch. As a result, during rush hour, the system paralyzed the movement of cars carrying passengers, blocking traffic on the roads for several hours.
After the incident, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China held a meeting with relevant departments, including the Ministry of Transport. During the meeting, industry representatives were called on to conduct internal reviews, take corrective action and strengthen safety controls.
Following this, the authorities limited the issuance of new licenses for autonomous driving.
Robotaxi operators have been temporarily banned from expanding their fleets to include new self-driving cars.
