Police are investigating the killing of 50-year-old Joel Plaza, who was gunned down outside his home in Maturita Trace Extension, Bypass Road, Arima, on Friday afternoon.
Officers said they responded to reports of explosions around 4 p.m. and arrived at the scene shortly after, where they found Plaza lying motionless on the side of the roadway.
Plaza, of Maturita Trace, was discovered with gunshot wounds about his body. He was clad in a blue jersey, grey three-quarter pants, black boxers and red and black slippers.
A resident reported hearing several explosions around 3.55 p.m. and, upon checking outside, saw Plaza lying on the ground after he had been offloading materials from a white Kia van parked in a driveway.
Shortly after the shooting, a white Hyundai Elantra was seen speeding away from the area in a westerly direction.
Crime scene investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings at the scene, including 7.62 and 9mm ammunition.
