The Andorran economy is growing at a speed completely disproportionate regarding the demand for work. The figures confirm a situation that was already hinted at malaise in the hospitality sector regarding the summer quota of 500 permits which approved a few days ago Governmenta number they consider insufficient to meet their labor needs. As of this May, the Principality had 1,826 job offerswhile only 244 people were registered as job seekers al Employment Serviceaccording to data from Department of Statistics.
From May 2022when the hangover from the hardest months of the pandemic had already been overcome, the demand for workers has not stopped growing while the number of unemployed has been progressively reduced. It was four years ago 1,323 jobs registered by Employment Serviceone 38% less than the current ones.
On the other hand, people looking for a job have decreased by one 42% with respect to those of 2022when they consisted of 424. In this way, the difference between the two variables has widened by one 75%. Apart from the unemployed, al Employment Service were also registered there 186 claimants in improvement, that is to say, those workers who have a job but are looking for a new job.
Despite the usual fluctuations, the rate of decrease of claimants has been maintained stable and with a defined pattern. The months with less unemployed usually those ofsummer and Decembercoinciding with two particularly strong periods in terms of tourist activity. The same reverse dynamic is observed in offers, which decrease in summer and winter and increase in spring and autumn. In any case, it is important to emphasize the unemployment reduction in a context of demographic growth and, as a consequence, of the active population, which has grown in 5,000 individuals from 2022 and it’s almost time 54,635 people.
According to the data of thelabor force survey made public by Department of Statistics at the end of May, the unemployment rate in Andorra stood at1.3% during 2025two tenths less than the previous year and in values close to historical lows, which were recorded approximately a year ago with a 0.9%. These are rates that have remained fairly stable in recent years and, therefore, could be considered as structural unemployment, that which is produced by the mismatch between the professional profile that companies demand and the skills and characteristics of workers.
In any case, the principality is one of the countries ofeurope with a lower unemployment rate, in line with other microstates like Monaco and Liechtenstein which also move in records close to zero unemployment. The comparison with neighboring countries is particularly favorable. Spain exceeds two digits by one 10.8%while that of France is of one 8.3%.
At the inauguration of the new offices of the Employment Servicethe Minister of Labor, Conxita Marsolcongratulated himself for this moment of “economic boom”, and assured that it is tworks in access to a job programs for the people who are most vulnerable. “This is a function that can be done much better now than when we have a stress level of unemployment”, he pointed out. He also referred to this situation the head of government, Xavier Espotnoting that in previous times more demands had been handled than job offers.

However, people of Andorran nationality represent a slightly higher proportion of unemployed people, at 51%while they assume around one 42% of the population of working age. The other end is represented by the Portuguese group, with less than one 5% of people looking for workabout six points below the weight in the active population.
