The Hungarian ruling party Tisza will present a bill on the complete transformation of public media in parliament next week. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced this on Facebook on Saturday, reports TASR correspondent in Budapest.
The Prime Minister wrote in the post that the goal of the proposal is to achieve balanced information in the media. “The message is sacred, opinion is free,” added Magyar.
The prime minister announced during the election campaign and immediately after the election victory that he would suspend the reporting of public media until balanced reporting was ensured, the 24.hu server recalled.
The CEO of the Fund for the Support of Media Service Providers and Asset Management (MTVA), Dániel Papp, announced in a statement on Friday that he initiated the termination of his employment relationship. According to an MTVA press release, “the CEO has submitted his resignation, citing the newly elected government’s intention to completely transform the public media.”
The Minister of Social Relations and Culture, Zoltán Tarr, said on Facebook on Tuesday that the public media will be transformed in two steps, in the framework of which they want to initiate a society-wide debate about what people think about the role and mission of the public media. In connection with Pappa’s departure, he recently stated that his tenure “is considered one of the darkest periods of the Hungarian public media scene.”
