“We could hear two speeches of accusation”, said János Bóka, leader of Fidesz, in response to the speakers before him, and then, quoting Szócrates, he said that instead of a speech of accusation, he was giving a speech in defense of Hungarian sovereignty.
The former minister responsible for EU affairs began his keynote address by saying that the EU funds belonging to Hungary belong to the Hungarian people, and that it is in our common interest to receive them. Therefore, the Fidesz faction supports all measures that help the Hungarian people, and they take note of all decisions that they consider unnecessary, but not harmful. On the other hand, they oppose those measures which are harmful to Hungary and the Hungarian people, or which involve giving up certain elements of sovereignty.
According to János Bóka, contrary to the government’s claim, those who were able to bring home EU funds are sitting in the Fidesz-KDNP faction, and according to him, we can talk about significant EU funds today because the previous government negotiated well and brought home outstanding sums even in regional comparison.
According to the former minister responsible for EU affairs, the previous government negotiated with the European Commission constructively and with the intention of reaching an agreement, and according to the EC’s assessment, 22 of the 27 miles were fully completed, and 5 were partially completed. He can only trust that the Tisza government and its parliamentarians will join those who can actually bring EU funds. “We will support you in this, even though you never supported us in this.”
According to János Bóka, the freezing of EU funds had political reasons and political goals. This target system has been constantly changing, but since the Tisza Party appeared in the European Parliament in 2024,
the goal was to overthrow the Orbán government and help Péter Magyar to power.
We negotiated by simultaneously fighting for resources and against member state intervention – continued the Fidesz politician, who believes that the Tisza government can achieve faster and more spectacular results in the short term, but in the long term, the current package of laws means giving up political autonomy and paves the way for further pressure.

Bóka asked the government whether the package in front of the House is the final text approved by the European Commission, that is, the debate is being played now, or there is also the possibility of substantive amendments. The Fidesz politician expects that due to the amendment of the house rules also before the Housethat the government is preparing to submit additional proposals in the coming weeks, and asked whether joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office was also part of the negotiation.
He said that Fidesz agrees with the amendment of public procurement rules and the tightening of the asset declaration system, as well as the elimination of political corruption. However, they do not support the abolition of kevkas, and according to him, the European Commission never asked for such a thing either. He considers this a decision belonging to national sovereignty, which cannot be tied to EU resources.
