A 50-year-old man died this Tuesday afternoon (28), after a crane fell in the town of Buarcos, in the municipality of Figueira da Foz, reported the Boa Nova Radio. THE Coimbra Diary adds, citing a source from the District Relief Operations Command, that the victim was on top of the crane, “fell and became trapped”, ending up dying due to the injuries caused.
The alert was given at 4:04 pm, indicating that there would be a serious injury. According to the service chief of the Figueira da Foz Firefighters Sapadores, Wilson Gomes, cited by Lusa, the victim was carrying out work with a crane on a project to build a house. When the operatives arrived, the victim was at some height above the ground, with “multiple fractures and multiple injuries”, and rescue equipment was used to put the worker on the ground and, “after assessment by the medical team of the VMER (Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle) of the Figueira da Foz District Hospital, he was declared dead at the scene”, he stated.
This is the second fatal accident involving cranes in the Coimbra district since the beginning of the week. On Monday, a 51-year-old man died following a falling from a craneon Rua das Chaves, in Eiras, on the outskirts of the city of Coimbra.
