A forty-five-year-old resident of Skopje was detained in Kriva Palanka on suspicion of having attempted to commit a crime of fraud, the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed.
According to information from the police, the case began when an unknown person contacted an elderly woman from Kriva Palanka by phone, posing as a doctor from Italy. The woman was told that her daughter had been in an accident in Italy and had suffered multiple fractures to her leg and jaw.
The fake doctor asked for 35,000 euros for an emergency operation, but after the woman explained that she did not have that much money, it was agreed to hand over all the funds she had in her home.
However, before handing over the money, she contacted her brother-in-law, who advised her to notify the police immediately. After the measures taken, police officers found and detained the suspect near her home.
The person was detained at the police station, and the Ministry of the Interior announced that after the complete documentation of the case, an appropriate criminal report will be filed.
