He national government and the National Assembly of 2015 They agreed to install a technical table to discuss the conditions of freedom of expression and access to information in Venezuela, during the second cycle of conversations that both delegations are holding in Caracas.
The announcement was made this Friday, at the end of the second day of work in plenary, on a day in which the parties also evaluated the lifting of access restrictions to digital portals recently applied by the executive.
In a joint statement, the delegations indicated that they welcome this decision, considering that the elimination of the restrictions “strengthens access to information.”
They install a commission to monitor agreements on freedom of information
The Technical Table for Freedom of Expression, Plurality of Thought and Right to Information will be the space in charge of advancing a process of consultation and verification with the actors involved and the community in general. The objective will be to evaluate the progress achieved in this matter during the second cycle of talks.
The agreement also contemplates the creation of a joint monitoring commission, which will have the responsibility of supervising compliance with the commitments established by the delegations.
The parties also agreed to keep the negotiation open. “In this second work cycle, the delegations are declared in permanent session until Wednesday, September 23,” says the statement released after the plenary session.
The installation of this technical table occurs after the government began to lift restrictions on different information portals. Trade union and human rights organizations have suggested that the measure should be extended to all media and platforms that remain blocked.
The second cycle of talks will continue over the next few days, while the delegations plan to progressively report on the agreements they reach in the different areas included in the agenda.
