From San Marino information (by Marino Cecchetti) – A non-San Marino historian (Francesco Vittorio Lombardi, a well-known medievalist) highlighted in 1982 that our community made its appearance in history by presenting itself with the typical structure of a medieval municipality. Then we distinguished ourselves. On Titan you have never put yourself in the hands of a podestà, that is, a head of government chosen from foreigners to pursue impartiality. In our country only “regents drawn from within the population” have always governed. Well, today this seems to no longer be the case. A member of the majority had no qualms about advocating affirm – in an official location! – that, in this period, the Court and the Central Bank (in both of which there are non-San Marino people at the top) are often taking on a role that belongs to those with government responsibilities.
An absurd situation in the oldest Republic in the world.
We cannot move forward without remedying it.
Another absurdity emerged in recent times in absolute contrast with the choices made throughout our very long past: the issuance of citizenship in abundance. Forgetting, among other things, that we are indeed a State, but a miniature State which is also an ‘enclave’, that is, ‘imprisoned’ in another State, Italy, of very different dimensions.
And it’s not over. There are other very big difficulties within us, all created by us as a consequence of the euphoria, which has not yet faded, for full independence. ‘miraculously’ achieved in 1971. We are leaving an enormous space in the State to unscrupulous fringes interior and external who are only interested in earning money with the mentality of that very famous Tuscan freemason who used gold ingots at the bottom of the flower vases around his villa.
