SAN MARINO – The Republic of San Marino celebrates the National Day of Care and Support on 29 October, dedicated to the role of families, caregivers, health professionals and volunteers in assisting fragile people. The anniversary was established after the unanimous approval, on 16 July 2025, of an Arengo Request by the Great and General Council.
The initiative recalls the principles of the International Day proclaimed in 2023 by the United Nations General Assembly and enhances care as a shared responsibility of the entire community.
The Institute for Social Security is committed to developing pathways based on proximity and continuity of care, including proactive home medicine, which involves scheduled visits to the general practitioner for frail patients or those with reduced mobility.
The dedicated interventions include the multisensory room at Colore del Grano, the “Musica in Corsia” project and the initiative for the creation of the Hospice, presented last July. The focus also includes training professionals on communicating with patients and assessing the quality perceived by users.
A further step is represented by Law 23 September 2026 n. 141, which introduced new provisions to support families and strengthened the recognition of the family caregiver.
“The National Day of Care and Support recalls a responsibility that concerns the entire community”, states the Secretary of State for Health Massimo Andrea Ugoliniunderlining the importance of strengthening local assistance and supporting families.
For the ISS general director Claudio Vagnini“humanizing care means combining competence, listening and closeness”, guaranteeing continuous care paths especially in moments of greatest fragility.
