Becoming a father is quite a challenge, doing it overnight and without having planned. even more so, but that this happens in a country where fatherhood in homosexual men faces legal and social obstacles is a test at all levels.
This is the premise of “Proud,” an eight-episode Polish HBO miniseries.
The story follows Filip, a man who lives without too many worries in Warsaw, between parties, alcohol and a nightlife that defines his routine. But everything changes when the death of his sister forces him to take care of Tosia, his niece.
From this situation, the series observes the clash between a single man trying to take care of a girl, with an institutional environment little prepared for his situation and a society where prejudices and homophobia are evident.
Production is also a window to explore new family models in Eastern Europe.
With recognition at festivals such as Series Mania 2026, where it won the Grand Prix and the Best Actor award for Ignacy Liss, the series premieres chapters every Friday.
