Senior Iraqi sources reported on Sunday that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s campaign to prosecute those accused in corruption cases is still continuing in Baghdad and the provinces, confirming that it has so far resulted in the arrest of 47 MPs and officials.
According to the sources, the campaign included a number of members of the House of Representatives and government officials, as part of the implementation of arrest warrants issued by the competent judicial authorities against the backdrop of accusations related to corruption cases.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) published the names of a number of those arrested, including the head of the Azm Alliance and member of the House of Representatives, Muthanna Al-Samarrai, along with MPs Ziad Al-Janabi, Bahaa Al-Nouri, Muhammad Al-Karbouli, Alia Nassif, Muhammad Jamil Al-Mayahi, Hassan Al-Khafaji, Abdul Rahman Al-Luwaizi, Mudar Al-Karawi, Hind Al-Abbasi, Muhammad Farman Al-Jubouri, Bushra Al-Qaisi, Muhammad Al-Sayhoud, in addition to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Distribution Affairs, Ali Maaraj, and Ibrahim. Al-Sumaidaie.
For its part, the Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission confirmed, in a statement, its implementation of judicial arrest warrants issued against a number of those accused of trespassing on public funds, noting that these measures were the result of coordination and integration between the judicial, executive and legislative authorities, in addition to the Commission’s efforts in follow-up, audit and monitoring.
The Authority stressed that all procedures are implemented in accordance with the provisions of the law, stressing that it bases its work on institutional and popular support, with its commitment to informing public opinion of the course of its work with accuracy and transparency, within the limits permitted by applicable laws and regulations.
