A new June air temperature record has been set in Great Britain. As reported “Armenpress”citing the TASS agency, the country’s meteorological service recorded 36.9 degrees Celsius in the east of England.
According to the meteorological service, the air temperature continues to rise. Thus, the record of 35.6 degrees, maintained since June 1976, has been renewed for the third day in a row.
It was 36.1 degrees on June 24, 36.7 degrees on June 25, and 36.9 degrees on June 26. Much of England remains under the highest level of weather danger, red, which means the heat can pose a serious threat to life and health. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly from June 27, but the penultimate danger level, orange level, which also warns of potential serious health risks due to heat, will remain in effect.
Due to the heat, hundreds of schools have been completely or partially closed in the country, kindergartens are urging parents to take their children home earlier, and a number of museums, zoos and tourist facilities have also temporarily stopped working.
Many children’s playgrounds are also closed for the second day in a row, and free drinking water is distributed to residents in supermarkets and other public places. London Underground stations have posted reminders to drink as much liquid as possible.
