Anahit Manasyan’s message on the occasion of World Refugee Day
“On June 20, the world celebrates World Refugee Day, reaffirming the fundamental principle that every person, regardless of their status, location or other circumstances, should be protected and safe.
This day is not only a demonstration of solidarity and support for the millions of people who have been forced to leave their homes, but also a call to the international community and states to once again reaffirm their commitment to protecting the rights of refugees, ensuring their safety and a dignified life.
Today, millions of people in the world continue to be deprived of the opportunity to have a secure livelihood as a result of wars, armed conflicts, persecution and violence.
I emphasize that the protection of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and forcibly displaced persons is one of the priority areas of activity of the Human Rights Defender institution.
The staff continuously conducts field monitoring, studies and analysis, prepares reports, collaborates with international and national partners, and also implements awareness-raising activities.
An important achievement in this field is the public council on the protection and promotion of the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and forcibly displaced persons, which was recently formed by the initiative of the Human Rights Defender, which unites civil society representatives, experts and other interested parties involved in the field. The Council is an important platform for joint discussion of problems, development of solutions and making the voice of beneficiaries more audible.
I also emphasize effective cooperation with international partners, in particular, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in terms of strengthening mechanisms for the protection of the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced persons.
Dear colleagues,
World Refugee Day is another opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the important idea that every refugee, asylum seeker and forcibly displaced person should be provided with safe and dignified living conditions and have the opportunity to fully protect and effectively exercise their rights.
This day is also an important reminder that behind every refugee story is a human destiny, full of trials, losses and hope, which implies that government bodies, international organizations, civil society and all actors involved in the field of human rights protection must continue to work together for a world where no one is left behind and the dignity and rights of every person are protected.”
