The Drug Enforcement Administration foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine, and arrested a dangerous and armed individual linked to regional drug smuggling gangs, while it dealt with 3 other specific cases, during one of which it thwarted an attempt to smuggle 150,000 narcotic pills.

The media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate said in a statement on Wednesday that workers in the Narcotics Control Administration dealt with 5 specific cases of drug smuggling and trafficking during the past few days, during which they arrested 9 people.

In the first case, the media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate confirmed that information had been received by the administration’s employees about a person’s intention to smuggle a large quantity of the narcotic cocaine into the Kingdom. A special investigation team was formed in cooperation with the Jordanian customs and security services to follow up on that information. After weeks of investigation and follow-up, the person was able to determine the identity of the person, who is of Arab nationality, and the date of his arrival through Queen Alia International Airport. Upon his arrival, he was arrested and his luggage was searched. Packages of various products were found to contain 6 Liters of liquid cocaine.

He added that at the Jaber border post, after following up on information about people inside the Kingdom agreeing with drug dealers and smugglers to smuggle a quantity of narcotic pills through the border crossing, the cargo vehicle containing the narcotic substances was identified and seized along with its driver upon its arrival in cooperation with Jordanian customs and security services. Upon searching the vehicle, 150,000 narcotic pills were found inside a spare tire, and through investigations the identity and whereabouts of 3 people receiving narcotic substances inside the Kingdom were identified. They were all arrested.

He pointed out that in Mafraq Governorate, after collecting information, following up and monitoring a wanted person who was classified as dangerous and armed and subject to requests for dealing with regional smuggling networks, his whereabouts were determined, he was raided and arrested, and a quantity of narcotic pills was seized in his possession.

The spokesman added that a person was raided in the center of the capital, who used his house to grow narcotic marijuana seedlings. He was arrested and 2,300 seedlings planted inside containers were found inside the house.

In the latest case, two drug dealers and those involved in distributing narcotic substances to dealers were arrested in Balqa Governorate, and 9,000 narcotic pills were seized in their possession.
