The Director of the Office of the Land Transport Authority in Zarqa, Engineer Obada Izz al-Din Abu Qamar, said that the regular transport project is witnessing rapid expansion across the Kingdom, with the launch of a package attached to the second package that includes the Karak-Zarqa and Karak-Aqaba routes, in response to the growing demand for these vital lines that serve a wide segment of university students, employees and citizens, anticipating the start of trial operation of the two routes during the last quarter of 2026.
Abu Qamar told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that the government approved the operation of the two new routes with 15 medium buses per route, indicating that the Land Transport Authority will, following the issuance of the government decision, begin completing the necessary technical and operational procedures, including providing buses with electronic payment systems and television monitoring, and converting operators from the individual ownership system to companies operating within an integrated institutional framework.
He explained that the success of the first phase of the regular transportation project constituted an incentive to launch the second phase, after the experiment proved its feasibility in practice and received positive feedback from citizens.
He stated that the second phase included 7 routes: Tafila – Amman, Ma’an – Amman, Ajloun – Amman, Zarqa – Irbid, Zarqa – Mafraq, Jerash – Irbid, and Jerash – Mafraq, with a total of 180 medium and large buses.
He added that the idea of regular transportation was launched in its first phase via 4 main lines: Amman – Karak, Salt – Amman, Irbid – Amman, and Jerash – Amman, in response to the rapid transformations in citizens’ transportation patterns and the increasing importance of the time factor in their daily lives, in addition to the spread of unregulated means of transportation such as minibuses and private vehicles, which imposed additional financial burdens on citizens.
He pointed out that the project aims to achieve a direct benefit for citizens by investing time optimally and developing the public transport sector by transforming bus groups from individual ownership to a more efficient institutional system capable of providing sustainable, high-quality service. He pointed out that the first phase, which was launched in June 2025, began with 127 buses before their number increased to 146 buses as a result of the increasing demand for the service.
Abu Qamar confirmed that the buses operating within the project are equipped with an integrated electronic control system that includes electronic payment systems and internal cameras, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety and quality, raising the level of service provided to citizens, and enhancing confidence in public transportation as a civilized, safe and efficient option.
He called on citizens to benefit from regular transportation services, due to their precise adherence to timetables, advanced levels of safety and control over drivers’ behavior and their compliance with traffic laws, in addition to the diversity of electronic payment methods that include smart cards and virtual cards via QR code technology on mobile phones, in addition to bank cards, in a step that reflects the Kingdom’s direction towards modernizing the public transportation system and consolidating the concepts of efficiency and sustainability in the services provided to citizens.
