While the temperature rose above 40 degrees in many cities, especially Paris, the authorities took urgent measures one after another against health problems, forest fires and transportation disruptions.
EMERGENCY MEASURES WERE TAKEN
Red alert, the highest level, was declared in some parts of Britain, France, Spain and Italy, where the heat wave increased its effect.
Temperatures measured in Paris and many European cities have reached values seen in the Middle East during the summer months.
While local governments imposed restrictions on alcohol sales in some red alert regions in France, hot weather warnings were issued to citizens throughout Germany.
In Madrid, the capital of Spain, the planned screenings in the World Cup fan area were canceled due to the temperature reaching 39 degrees.

“HEAT DOME” EFFECT
Scientists state that hot air is trapped in the region due to the “heat dome” formed over Western Europe.
The hot air carried from North Africa also strengthened the effect of this system, causing temperatures to approach record levels in many parts of Europe.
EUROPE IS THE FASTEST WARMING CONTINENT IN THE WORLD
According to Copernicus data, daily average temperatures in Western France, England and Wales increased by more than 12 degrees above the average for the 1991-2020 period.
Scientists state that Europe has warmed by about 0.56 degrees per decade since the mid-1990s. For this reason, the continent is shown as the fastest warming region in the world.
Researchers also point out that climate change is making heat waves more frequent and more severe.
