The High Court in Podgorica confirmed the verdict of the Basic Court in Podgorica, by which the former president of the Council of Radio and Television of Montenegro Veselin Drljević and the then members Filip Lazović, Naod Zorić and Amina Murić were sentenced to suspended prison terms of seven months, for abuse of position during the illegal re-election of Boris Raonic as General Director of the Public Service in 2023, Television Vijesti was told from the High Court.
Thus, the judgment of the Basic Court from September last year became final, and the appeals of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of the defendants were rejected as unfounded, Television News was told from the High Court, which issued this verdict on June 15.
The proceedings against the members of the RTCG Council were initiated because they voted again for the election of Raonic in 2023, even though the Basic and Higher Courts had previously ruled that Raonic was also illegally elected in 2021, due to a conflict of interest, and then ordered that the Council make an election from the remaining candidates from the 2021 competition.
Drljević recently re-candidated as a member of the RTCG Council, Zorić was re-elected as a member two years ago, while the mandate of Lazović and Murić expired in the meantime.
Drlljević recently, during the consultative hearing before the Administrative Board regarding the competition for a new member of the RTCG Council, commented on the verdict of the Basic Court and said that, if that decision is confirmed, “he will know what to do”.
“If the decisions of the Basic Court are confirmed, no one will have to warn me to resign,” said Drljević at the time.
His first mandate expired, and the Administrative Board then proposed him again to the Assembly as a member of the RTCG Council.
