The captains and boatmen on three of Eimskip’s ships, who have been on strike since Monday, have reached an agreement with the shipping company and their strike is therefore cancelled.
Eimskip reports this in an announcement.
The strike covered three ships of Eimskip, Brúarfoss, Dettifoss and Selfoss.
All ships scheduled for next week
The announcement states that preparations for the departures of the ships will begin immediately and it is expected that all the company’s ships will be on schedule as soon as next week.
Bergur Þorkelsson, the chairman of the Icelandic Seamen’s Association, who negotiated with Eimskip on behalf of the crew members, said in an interview with mbl.is earlier this week that the dispute was not about the salary team, but was mostly about staffing on the ships.
“Eimskip has great faith in the seafaring profession and has long-standing experience of their work, competence, diligence and courage. It is important for the company to continue that deep-rooted relationship, to work towards the progress of the profession and to lift it up,” says Eimskip’s announcement.
