At the beginning of the court hearing in the case of Samvel Karapetyan, the leader of the “Strong Armenia” party chaired by Vahe Dolmazyan, the lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, a member of his defense team, once again warned the court about accompanying his client to the courtroom.
“I want to reveal to the court that Samvel Karapetyan, who is under house arrest, was transported from the place of house arrest to the court session hall again today with a car with a police barricade designed for the transportation of detained persons, which, we think, is just once again turning into a mockery of the law by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
We just want to inform the court that this time there really was one difference. The car of the probation service was also at the same address, but it was just there. Then they directly drove the car to the court. My colleague raised the issue that the escort should be carried out by the Probation officers, and the policemen should accompany the relevant vehicle of the Probation. But the police insisted that under no circumstances should they be transported only by means of a vehicle with a bar, that is, the situation should be preserved.
This is another court session we are facing. And I think that this is within the domain of the court, as the body implementing the proceedings, in a certain sense, the powers and competences.
Is such a situation itself not a given in the combination as a new circumstance that has appeared, a circumstance of change in the legality condition? And in general, today we would have a discussion on the issue of changing the restraining order, and Samvel Karapetyan, as the chairman of the “Strong Armenia” party, would have the opportunity to participate in the meeting of the “Strong Armenia” alliance of parties scheduled for June 3, at 19:00 in Republic Square. Based on the fact that we simply do not get a solution to such an elementary issue,” said the lawyer.
Other lawyers also joined the motion.
The presiding judge Vahe Dolmazyan inquired from the female police officer who accompanied Samvel Karapetyan and who was in the courtroom at that moment, who instructed and in what manner, in writing or verbally, that they should accompany Samvel Karapetyan to the court from the place of house arrest. In response, the policeman informed his superior with a verbal order. The court informed the participants of the session that it will receive clarifications from the police regarding this issue and will publish it next.
